Filled with vision and passion for living fully, three hospice nurses spent hours dreaming of an organization that would support humanity in awakening to the natural cycles of life.  These nurses, graced by the privilege of being at the bedside of many dying patients, have come to recognize the sacredness of the dying process and were able to see death as an opportunity.  For these nurses the end of life transition is a process to be embraced and consciously prepared for.

FOUNDING DIRECTOR

Silvia Talavera is a certified hospice nurse and began her nursing career in 1979.  She has facilitated life transitions and rites of passage since 1993 as a teacher for the School of Lost Borders.

Silvia has been educating hospice patients, families and caregivers on hospice and palliative care, and the dying process for over five years.  Silvia was trained at San Diego Hospice and Palliative Care, where she specilized in crisis care.  She worked in the healing arts as a Massage Therapist and is currently working as a hospice nurse and Reiki Master.

"My life was forever transformed when I began my work in hospice. The privilege of sitting at the bedside of the dying provided me with the opportunity to move full circle in my life. I was forced to look at my own impermanence and face the fear that this brought up. As I held the space for families and their loved ones during the final moments I witnessed the finality of life in that last breath. The teaching was profound, it was a reminder to me that every moment we are alive is a gift.  I realized the importance of living each moment fully and was able to accept my own mortality with less fear. This was the legacy these divine souls left me.

The deeper my work took me through the dying process the more I began to recognize the need for education and support through life transitions and end of life care. This was the inspiration for creating Living Bridges. It is my hope that Living Bridges will continue to be of service to the community through education and increased awareness on conscious living and conscious dying.”

And life is the destiny you are bound to refuse

Until you have consented to die.
